Located in the Guanacaste province of Costa Rica and home to the country’s second-largest international airport, Liberia has served as a resting place for people traveling between San Jose and Nicaragua for years.
Even though it’s still quite a small city, Liberia has its own unique charm that makes it a popular tourist destination. Travelers love it not only because it’s close to the airport but also because it offers a more chilled-out launchpad for exploring neighboring national parks, the beautiful beaches of the Pacific, and some of the best Costa Rica excursions.

Best Resorts Near Liberia Costa Rica
Planet Hollywood Costa Rica
Planet Hollywood is one of my favorite all-inclusive resorts, and a great place for a family vacation. We have spent a total of several weeks here over the past few years, and always love it.
While the beach here isn’t the most gorgeous you’ll find, it’s just a stone’s throw from Playa Cabuyal and Playa Nasazcolo. You’re right on the gulf of Papagayo so waves are tiny and calm, making it a great place to SUP and kayak. With the array of both international cuisine and local Costa Rican food, there’s really nothing not to like about Planet Hollywood.
Hacienda Guachepelin is just 20 minutes outside of Liberia but feels like it’s a world away. Just inside the Rincon de la Vieja National Park, you’ll find everything from zip lining to waterfall chasing to relaxing by a beautiful pool in the middle of the rainforest. We absolutely adore Hacienda Guachepelin for the food as well- it’s got one of the best gluten-free menus in the country.
Entrance to the Rio Negro Hot Springs is included with your hotel stay, as is a full typical Costa Rican breakfast. Even if you don’t do horseback riding, I highly recommend you stop by the stables to see the horses- they are gorgeous!
Make sure to do a tour of La Leona Waterfall when you go here- it’s not to be missed!

Margaritaville Beach Resort
Margaritaville Beach Resort on Playa Flamingo, is one of my most favorite white sand beaches in the country. What’s great about Margaritaville for families is the covered kid’s pool, making it a fun place to play and stay out of the sun’s harmful rays.
We also love this resort because there is both an all-inclusive package and an a la carte option. This means you can stay on the property and eat, or you can explore e the nearby villages for your fix of both local Costa Rican food and international cuisine.
Boasting a contemporary design, chic amenities, and an unbeatable location near Liberia International Airport, El Mangroove is a top destination for business travelers and beach vacationers looking for a relaxed, luxury hotel.
Spend the day exploring the spectacular attractions of Peninsula Papagayo including the magnificent Santa Rosa National Park. Later, kick back at the outdoor pool or pamper yourself with a massage at the spa before sampling flavorful cuisines at any of the two on-site restaurants.
At the end of the day, ease into the comfort of the elegantly designed suites that feature plush beds, free high-speed Wi-Fi, spa-like bathrooms, and a private balcony.

Relax and delight in the extraordinary pura vida experience at the glorious Bahia del Sol boutique hotel that is located only a few steps away from the quiet Potrero Beach. Whether you’re just coming here for a day or you plan to stay in one of the spacious, air-conditioned cabanas, your visit will be graced with majestic views of the volcano, the beauty of the lush rainforest, and the charm of enchanting hot springs.
But that’s not all; this is a fantastic place for families. As you enjoy some calming you-time in the natural hot springs, kids will be sliding down the thrilling bullet water slide that opens into a dazzling freshwater pool. And that, my friend, is just the beginning!
An orchid garden, a butterfly garden, a hummingbird center, and frog, fish, and turtle pongs all wait to be explored. Did I mention the natural mud bath, too? Now, that would be a truly unique way to cool you off on a sunny afternoon!

Hiding in the striking outskirts of the majestic Rincon de la Vieja Volcano, Borinquen Mountain Resort creates the perfect getaway for adventurers and romantics visiting Guanacaste. Featuring gorgeous private villas, suites, and bungalows with private decks that offer breathtaking views of the mountain and the sunset, this is one of the best hotels for vacationers looking for a quiet, relaxing atmosphere.
Do not miss an adventure expedition – ride a horse through the mountains, soar across the trees on an adrenaline-pushing canopy zipline, or go hiking and listen to roaring waterfalls. It’s a real chance to explore the surrounding beauty!

The Four Seasons Resort is perched on a hillside surrounded by lush tropical vegetation and offering access to two pristine beaches. Chic suites and guest rooms offer loads of natural light and jaw-dropping jungle or ocean views (or both).
Get prepared to ride the waves, explore vast wildlife on a guided kayak tour, play beach volleyball, or learn some Latin dance moves. Love golf?
The world-class 18-hole, Arnold Palmer-designed course will certainly keep you occupied. If you want to spend some time alone, check the little ones into the on-site kids’ clubs where they’ll have entertainment of their own.
Buena Vista del Rincon
Situated one hour from the city of Liberia, Buena Vista del Rincon is a tropical paradise for adventurers, ecotourism lovers, and wellness seekers looking to enjoy Mother Earth’s biodiversity.
Offering panoramic views of the Pacific Coast and easy access to hot springs, rivers, trails, and waterfalls, this is the perfect place to intimately connect with the natural world and launch fun nature tours. I haven’t been here yet, but I am absolutely dying to go.
